FAQ

What material is the shield made of?

Our ballistic shield is manufactured using a composite of Ultra High Molecular Weight Polyethylene (UHMWPE) fibers with urethane resin for advanced ballistic protection. The viewport is a glass/polycarbonate composite rated for specific levels of threat protection. All WRAP Armor™ shields are coated with a proprietary Polyurea spray that seals and protects the shield while greatly reducing spalling.

Do you offer customizable options, such as viewport size, handle placement, etc?

Yes. We work very closely to accommodate unique customer needs when the feature requests are attainable.

Where is the shield made?

The shields are manufactured in the USA by WRAP Armor based in Tempe AZ. All ballistic components of the shields are compliant to the Berry Amendment.

What is the production date of materials used to produce the shields?

Shields are made to order using new production runs, which are scheduled after receipt of customer order.

Can you provide a copy of lot certifications of manufacturing?

Yes, certifications can be provided for all material lots and all manufacturing process runs used to produce all WRAP Armor ballistic shield panels.

Is the material used to produce the shield 5 years old or older?

No. New materials are ordered and used to produce customer shield orders. All material lots are tracked by a Stock Lot # that includes “available from” date information. When new production runs are scheduled, some material components are pulled from existing available inventory stock. Currently, all items in WRAP Armor’s inventory of shield materials are less than 12 months old.

What is the NIJ designation?

NIJ 0108.01 Compliant. The NIJ does not certify ballistic shields. The current governing document is NIJ Standard 0108.01, September 1985. Ballistic Resistant Protective Materials and all WRAP Armor ballistic shields exceed its ballistic requirements. The WRAP Armor Tactical Shield is designed to protect against the equivalent of a Type III armor plate, 7.62 x 51mm .308 (M80).

Can you provide a copy of the Independent Testing Lab Certification?

Yes.

Is the viewport rated NIJ III as well, if not, what is the rating?

Our viewport is a certified UL 5 system which complies with an NIJ Type III single shot of 7.62 x 51mm .308 (M80).

Was the viewport tested at the same time the shield was tested?

Yes. Both independently by WRAP Armor and at a certified NIJ testing laboratory.

Is the hardware used to assemble the shield ballistic rated?

Yes, it was also shot as part of our NIJ test lab shoot protocol.

Does the assembly hardware compromise the integrity of the shield?

Obviously there is a through hole, or window, for the hardware bolts to go through; however, we waterjet cut these windows to exact diameters for uncompromising fit with our hardware.

What is the integrity of the bolts on the front of the shield that hold the viewport and handle in place?

All hardware, in conjunction with the surrounding ballistic materials, surpasses the ballistic requirements for NIJ Type III.

Are they reinforced to prevent penetration from rounds?

Our bolts screw directly into either our metal handles or the metal frames that protect and house our ballistic glass. We do not use a bolt/nut system, thus eliminating the possibility of bolt failure. Additionally, the bolts in the window frame are over sprayed during our coating process to further secure them.

How was this tested?

All hardware components were subjected to ballistic testing as a part of our NIJ lab test in accordance with NIJ 0108.01 Shield Standard Test Protocols.
