Wrap Technologies Launches Nationwide “Don't Hurt Those Already Hurting” Campaign

Tempe, AZ – 13 October 2023 - Wrap Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: WRAP) (“Wrap” or the “Company”), a global leader in innovative public safety technologies and services, today announced the launch of a new national campaign, “Don’t Hurt Those Already Hurting.” The initiative aims to bring together law enforcement agencies throughout the country to promote and support local mental health related community programs.

As part of this campaign, Wrap will roll out a series of partnerships with law enforcement agencies across the US. The company and local law enforcement agencies will team up to support community outreach programs, develop collaborative partnerships, and make donations to local mental health related organizations to help bridge the gap between policing, technology, and mental health.

“We are committed to creating a safer, more humane world. ‘Don’t Hurt Those Already Hurting’ underscores our dedication to protecting those who are most vulnerable and provides a holistic approach that combines compassion, service, and innovation,” said Kevin Mullins, CEO of Wrap Technologies. “Through advanced technology and awareness, we aspire to make a lasting impact with our agency partners in the coming months.”

Wrap is looking to sign up a coalition of one million law enforcement officers, civil rights leaders, and mental health professionals to join them in this endeavor.  Participants in the campaign will help organize and engage in local programs between law enforcement agencies and mental health professionals and will have the opportunity to nominate community organizations specializing in mental health and suicide prevention services.

“A nationwide campaign like this represents a critical step forward in bringing together police and community,” said Greg Hansch, LMSW, Executive Director of NAMI. “It aligns perfectly with the essential goals of promoting mental well-being and promises to break down stigma, spark vital conversations, and foster empathy. By elevating police and mental health community providers through dialogue and support, Wrap is helping lead the change around the future of policing.”

“As a new agency to deploy BolaWrap and seeing early success with situational de-escalation in our city, this initiative is incredibly important to both our officers and the community they serve,” said Chief Gary Tomatani of the Hawthorne, California Police Department. “We look forward to working with the ‘Don’t Hurt Those Already Hurting’ campaign and proudly stand beside their work in promoting conversations and action around mental health.”

In an era when the importance of enhanced public safety measures cannot be overstated, the Millbury Police Department in Massachusetts is setting an example for police departments nationwide by prioritizing safer outcomes in their community policing efforts. Their commitment to proactive strategies and the adoption of cutting-edge tools like the BolaWrap underscores their determination to create a safer environment for all residents. These officers' actions serve as a shining example of how innovation and non-lethal solutions are redefining the way law enforcement prioritizes safety in our communities.

Officers Mike O’Leary and Timothy Dean have been recognized for their exceptional use of the BolaWrap device. In a recent series of incidents, Officer O’Leary and Officer Dean demonstrated remarkable initiative and a commitment to the safety of their community. These officers responded to distress calls that required a new approach to resolve potentially life-threatening situations. In both cases, traditional verbal commands failed to yield desired results, prompting the officers to turn to the BolaWrap as a non-lethal alternative.

These exemplary actions have not gone unnoticed within the department. Chief Brian Lewos has officially recognized Officer O’Leary and Officer Dean for their outstanding use of the BolaWrap device, which played a pivotal role in achieving safer outcomes during these critical incidents. Chief Lewos commended their dedication through the BolaWrap Recognition Program presenting them with a challenge coin and certificate as a symbol of their commitment to safety and well being within their community. The Millbury Police Department's recognition of Officers O’Leary and Dean serves as a testament to their unwavering commitment to the department's mission of safeguarding the community to proactively address critical incidents, reduce risks, and ensure the safety of both officers and residents.

On Feb 24, 2023, Officer Mike O’Leary responded to a report stating that there is a female subject inside a house with a knife. The report stated that the female subject had cut herself with said knife. Prior to Officer O’Leary’s arrival, the female subject fled into the woods on foot. Officer O’Leary tracked the female subject's footsteps in the snow and found her in the woods. Officer O’Leary gave verbal commands to the female subject to stop. Verbal commands were ignored prompting Officer O’Leary to deploy the BolaWrap. “The Kevlar tethered cord was wrapped around the female subject's legs, and she was immediately placed into handcuffs.” She was transported safely to the hospital.

On Mar 7, 2023, Officer Timothy Dean responded to a report from a father stating that his son, following an argument, jumped out of a moving vehicle. The son was making serious threats of retrieving a firearm and “ending it all.” Officer Dean responded to the scene, and upon arrival he found the subject walking away. After repeated verbal commands were ignored, Officer Dean communicated to the subject that if he did not stop he was going to be restrained by the BolaWrap. The subject responded “Do it!” at which point Officer Dean yelled “Bola Bola Bola” and deployed the BolaWrap. “It had its desired effect, and the officers were able to end the encounter peacefully.” The subject was then transported safely to the hospital.
